One of the hardest aspects of having a premature
baby is not being able to hold her, just yet.
The nurses will strive to put your baby in
your arms as soon as her condition allows it, but you can certainly touch
her.
Touch is very important to your baby's growth
and development and often a calming and gentle hand on her back is the
best kind of touching for her.
Skin-to-skin care, or kangaroo
care is comforting for both your baby and you. You actually get to feel her breathing and her heartbeat right next to
your own. The nice thing about Kangaroo care is that Dad can hold baby this way
too.
